KEILOR HOUSE I
KEILOR, VIC
A DATED 1960’S BRICK VENEER HOME CURATED BY THOUGHFUL RENOVATION, KEILOR HOUSE DEMOSTRATES THE REVIVAL OF SPACE, ROUTINE AND LIVABILITY WITHIN COMPACT CONSRTAINTS.
Our clients had come to us at the end of their rope, akin to many of the homes of the era the current house was struggling to accommodate for the needs of a growing family of four in Melbourne’s west. The brief; to considerately improve the livability and look of the interior programs while navigating the constraints of the existing building envelope, whilst not overcapitalizing.
Minor alterations to the existing layout were made, eliminating bulky walls in place of more compact solutions, while openings in the exterior façade enabled much desired natural light and connection to the surrounding hill-scape.
A bold design concept was put forward challenging our client’s pre-conceived notions of space, functionality and aesthetics. It aimed, and subsequently delivered on introducing modern amenity + storage, improving flow and delivering a softened aesthetic to the interior atmosphere.
A major pain point in the kitchen was the lack of pantry storage and bench space. The introduction of an angled wall set to resolve these issues by creating the foundation for an integrated appliance wall and generous walk-in pantry, informing the skewed shape of the island bench.
The island sought to introduce a multitude of functions, preparation space, bench seating, drawer storage, on-bench power and a feature for the kitchen, all within a compact form. The island edges were softened with a multitude of calculated curves, clad in laminated timber panels enabling a seamless flow in, around and out of the kitchen.

Review: “Ponder Studio were fantastic and creative in every way with our home renovation and complete overhaul project. Ponder Studio challenged some of our basic design ideas of what we thought would work and look good and sought to find the right solution and design instead of just accepting our basic ideas. Ponder in all cases have found the right design solution and design layout for our home renovation project.” – Paul, Keilor House
